Community lacrosse event held in memory of Trent Stetler – to raise funds and increase awareness around mental health issues - will take place on Saturday, April 13

Haverford Township, PA: March 28, 2019 | The 5th Annual Trent Stetler LAX Play Day will take place on Saturday, April 13 from 8 am through 8:30 pm at the Haverford High School athletic field.

The community event raises awareness about mental health issues and features a full day of lacrosse games for young residents of Haverford Township from kindergarten through 12thgrade, a free lacrosse clinic for boys and girls by LaSalle University’s Candace Bossell from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm, a Fun-Zone from 9am – 3pm, a visit from the St. Joe’s Hawk, food trucks, and local organizations providing mental health information for attendees.

The Lax Play Day is a fundraiser to support the Trent Stetler Memorial Fund for annual scholarships in Trent’s memory awarded to Haverford High School varsity lacrosse players. In addition, funds raised during the day and through crowd-funding will support programs within the township that encourage students, teachers, and parents to feel comfortable about communicating with one another, thereby lifting the stigma around mental health.

Schedule of the days' events:

From 8am - 3pm, games featuring student lacrosse players from the Haverford Blaze, Haverford’s lacrosse league for players in 8th grade and younger will take place.

At 1:30pm – 2:30pm, Haverford High School alum and the winningest coach in the LaSalle University's Women's Lacrosse Program, Candace Bossell, will offer a free clinic for young girls and boys.

The following is the schedule for the Haverford High School players:

3 PM – 4:30 PM: Haverford HS Girls JV Game

4:30 PM – 6 PM:  Haverford HS Girls Varsity Game

6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Haverford HS Boys Varsity Game

The event takes place on the A. G. Cornog Field at Haverford High School, 200 Mill Road, Havertown, PA. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to enter the field at the entrance behind the Haverford Middle School off of Darby Road.

Trent Stetler was a varsity lacrosse player all four years at Haverford High School where he played mid-field. Mid-fielder and face-off guy, during his senior year Trent was team captain and was named team MVP. Trent grew up in Havertown, was a 2012 graduate of Haverford High School, and attended Elon University. Trent took his life in January 2015 at the age of 20 years old.

In addition to the lacrosse games on the field throughout the day, the event will feature a Fun-Zone section behind the Haverford Middle School from 9am – 3pm presented by the YMCA of Haverford. The Fun Zone area features a moon bounce, face painting, food trucks, crafts, games, and lacrosse skill-games for young and old.

Funds raised will support educational programs for members of the Havertown community including speaking engagements for students and parents within Haverford High School and Haverford Middle School, the Haverford Public Library and at the Haverford YMCA.
